RCHRC hosts a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session in Bokaro

On 6th November 2023, Ranchi Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (RCHRC) hosted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) session on advanced cancer treatment in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Chas and IMA Bokaro. The session was attended by 42 healthcare professionals from diverse medical specialties. Dr Sanjay Kumar, President of IMA Chas, Dr Anupriya, Secretary of IMA Chas, and Dr Pankaj Sharma, a renowned surgeon from Bokaro, were among the key dignitaries present at the event.

The CME session featured a distinguished panel of oncology experts who provided valuable insights into the latest advancements in cancer care techniques. Dr Amitesh Anand, Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology at RCHRC, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the expanding scope of surgery in curative cancer treatment. He discussed a spectrum of approaches from organ preservation surgery to supra-radical surgeries for cancers previously deemed to be non-curative. Drawing from his experience, Dr Anand highlighted that for certain stage IV cancer patients, cancers can be cured with surgery in combination with chemotherapy and radiation.

Dr Deepak Kumar, Radiation Oncologist at RCHRC, enlightened the audience about the advanced radiation techniques that are being successfully implemented at the hospital. Dr Manisha, Consultant in Palliative Medicine at RCHRC, delved into the pivotal role of palliative care in oncology. She emphasised that patients diagnosed with cancer require palliative care throughout the course of their disease. Therefore, integrating palliative care into the field of oncology results in enhanced symptom management, addressing physical, psychosocial, and spiritual aspects, ultimately enhancing the overall quality of life for both patients and their caregivers and ensuring a dignified end-of-life experience.

Dr T M Singh, Senior Radiation Oncologist from Bokaro General Hospital, expressed gratitude to the Tata Trusts and RCHRC for their efforts in making high-quality cancer care more affordable and accessible to the people of Jharkhand.
